The apparatus comprises a stencil e.g. rotatable disc 10 having a plurality of cut-outs therein indexable to bring desired ones thereof to an operative position wherein molten metal from spray gun 16 may be sprayed therethrough onto the metal surface P, and means for providing a relative stepped movement between the stencil and the metal surface whereby the indicia sprayed onto the metal surface are spaced from one another.
