The invention comprises the sodium and potassium salts of N-(5-nitro-2-furfurylidene)-1-aminohydantoin, and solvated adducts thereof, and the preparation thereof by treating the parent organic compound with sodium or potassium hydroxide or alkoxide in an inert liquid medium, followed, if desired, by heating to remove solvent from the product. The invention also comprises chemotherapeutic compositions (for parenteral administration) comprising solutions of the salts in physiologically acceptable solvents (e.g. sterile distilled water, p isotonic sodium chloride solution, 5% dextrose solution or sodium lactate solution).
