Use of at least one strain of an acetogenic, hydrogenotrophic, non-pathogenic bacterium (A) for treating or preventing gastrointestinal disorders and/or modulating the microbial equilibrium in the digestive tract of a mammal, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) pharmaceutical or food composition containing at least one (A); (2) method for monitoring (A) in the digestive tract of a mammal; and (3) method for producing (A).
