The method involves sending a direct triggering command on reaching the second of two accident hazard/degree of severity stages. An indirect command is sent to protection devices on reaching the first stage and a cancel command is sent if the second stage is not reached within a time window. The involved protection devices start time windows on receiving the indirect command and trigger if the cancel command is not reached in the time windows.
