PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for managing the residual quantity of ink in an ink cartridge accurately while preventing the print throughput of a printer from lowering. SOLUTION: In the inventive apparatus and method for managing the residual quantity of ink, data of the residual quantity of ink recorded in a nonvolatile memory mounted on an ink cartridge is read into a volatile memory at the time of turn on power of a printer using an ink cartridge filled with ink or when replacement of an ink cartridge is completed, data of the residual quantity of ink in the volatile memory is updated every time when ink is consumed, data of the residual quantity of ink is read out from the volatile memory only at the time of turn off power and data of the residual quantity of ink in the nonvolatile memory is updated. |
