PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a wide polyvinyl alcohol film useful as a manufacturing material of a polarizing film and excellent in the uniformity of retardation. SOLUTION: When a film forming raw material containing polyvinyl alcohol is supplied to the peripheral surface of the first drum positioned on the most upstream side among rotary drums and dried to form the polyvinyl alcohol film, the first drum has a diameter of 2 m or more.
