PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium having excellent surface gloss, quality of a recorded image and recording runnability and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The thermal recording medium comprises sequentially on a support a thermal recording layer containing a leuco dye, a colorant and an adhesive, a first intermediate layer containing a water-based resin, a second intermediate layer cured by irradiating an ionizing radiation curable compound with ionizing radiation, and a top layer containing a water-based resin, wherein the second intermediate layer contains a pigment as a means to solve the above problems. In addition, the method of manufacturing the thermal recording medium comprises the steps of (1) sequentially providing the thermal recording layer and the first intermediate layer on the support, (2) providing a coated surface of the second intermediate layer by applying a coating liquid for the second intermediate layer containing the ionizing radiation curable compound, (3) providing the top layer on a film or metal surface different from the support, (4) bringing the top layer into contact with the second intermediate layer, (5) curing the second intermediate layer by irradiating the ionizing radiation after the step (4), and releasing the film or metal surface from the top layer. |
