PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of detecting the unbalance load to an automatic washing machine. SOLUTION: This method for detecting the abnormal vibration to the automatic washing machine which has an induction motor for rotatably driving a rotary drum and an inverter circuit for driving this induction motor and successively and continuously carry out a washing process step for rotating the rotary drum forward and backward, and comprises a balancing process step for rotating the drum at a low speed and a spin drying process step for rotating the drum at a high speed consists in adopting a vector control inverter circuit 2 for the inverter circuit for driving the induction motor, comparing the torque command value or secondary current command value of the vector control inverter circuit 2 simultaneously with the start of the balancing process step with a preset over-vibration set value and outputting the over-vibration detection current value as an over-vibration warning when the result thereof exceeds a set value.
