PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generation device and image generation method which are able to prevent lowering of a picture quality due to a lack of memory when developing and outputting a large amount of received print data. SOLUTION: At step S201, print data are transferred from a personal computer to a print controller. At step S202, the print controller develops print data into a memory. At step S203, if a capacity of the memory is short for a development of print data, proceed to step S207, and temporarily suspend the development and check an empty memory for a main controller in the main controller, and at step S208, reserve an empty memory as a memory for the development. And next, using a memory reserved at step S208, resume the development processing and complete the processing. Next, at step S205, transfer the developed data to a main bus, and further, at step S206, transfer to a print unit and print out the developed data.
