PURPOSE: To provide a surface light source device and a liquid crystal display using a light guide plate with which stereo-azimuthal emission directional control is possible and fine unevenness of luminance is prevented. CONSTITUTION: Many micro reflectors 90 formed in the back surface 34 of the light guide plate 30 are provided with guide parts and conversion output parts with valleys which become narrowly and shallow according to separating from the guide part. The conversion output part reflects input light P twice on an internal slope, and generates internal output light Q. The internal output light Q is made incident internally on the slope of a projection line PR provided in a light-emitting surface 33. Although a part of internal incident light turns into direct escape light, a part does not escape directly but the part reaches the light-emitting surface 33 through the various optical paths again. The light being escaped by the chance of the second thereafter turns into indirect escape light. The fine unevenness of luminance is prevented by overlapping of the direct escape light and the indirect escape light. It is advantageous to place a reflector RF in order to increase the indirect escape light.
