PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that needs not to revise the setting even when an image read module for a required original type is selected to configure the image reader and images with different original types are alternately read. SOLUTION: The image reader consists of image read modules 1, 21, 41 that have means 3, 4, 25, 26 supporting originals 2, 23, 42, image sensors 10, 31, 49 that read an image on the originals, image signal processing means 11, 32, 50 that process an image signal from the image sensors, and connectors 12, 33, 51 that are used to output the image signal from the image signal processing means and to receive a control signal and of control module 61 that has connectors 62-64 that are connected to/disconnected from the connectors of each image read module and a control circuit 65 that receives the image signal from the image read module via the connectors and outputs the control signal to the image read modules.
