PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of comparatively simply judging the directivity of a line group distributed on a face. SOLUTION: A range to be found out on a drawing is surrounded by a circle. A square having the diameter of the circle as one side and an auxiliary frame having the proper number of cross lines having equally divided parts of a division number q in the square at an equal interval are prepared. The auxiliary frame is superposed to the part surrounded by the circle on a topographical map and the number (p) of intersecting parts out of respective parts obtained by the division is counted. While using the p and q of each cross line, p/q is calculated in each cross line, the average value of the p/q values of respective cross lines is determined as an average probability value k1 in the superposed arrangement state of the square, the average probability values k are obtained in respective rotated states by rotating in each prescribed angle, and the direction of a cross line having the smallest average probability value out of the obtained values k is judged as the direction of a line group (e.g. a trough line group).
