PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and exactly identify the species of organisms classified on the basis of biological taxonomy, even without using huge retrieval tables. SOLUTION: This identification system for identifying biological species classified, on the basis of biological taxonomy, has a species information storage part 8 for storing the information of species classified on the basis of biological taxonomy, a feature retrieval part 11 for retrieving the species information stored in the species information storage pat 8, on the basis of the features of an organism as a retrieval target, a name retrieval part 12 for retrieving the species information stored in the species information storage part 8 on the basis of the name, such as Japanese nomenclature or scientific nomenclature of the organism as a retrieval target, a taxon retrieval part 13 for retrieving the species information store in the species information storage part 8 on the basis of the taxon such as order, family and genus of the organisms as a retrieval target, and a composite retrieval part 14 for compositely operating these three retrieval means.
