PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM cell distribution method and an ATM communication unit, by which ATM cells can efficiently be multiple-address distributed in a short time via a UTOPIA bus. SOLUTION: A Txaddr transmission section 11 of a transmission section 10 sequentially outputs addresses to the UTOPIA bus in order to inquire of reception sections 201, 202,..., 20n about the possibility of reception of ATM cells. An enable control section 30 outputs only a reply, with respect to the inquiry conducted by outputs of the addresses of the reception sections to the UTOPIA bus as a signal Txclav. The transmission section 11 allows a Txclav detection section 12 to detect the signal Txclav but outputs ATM cells for multiple address distribution, independently of whether the reception sections 201, 202,..., 20n can receive the ATM cells and the reception sections 201, 202,..., 20n receive the ATM cells for multiple address distribution from the UTOPIA bus.
