<p>A cordless electrical appliance, a kettle or hot water jug for example, has base connector terminals arranged beneath openings in a planar surface of the appliance base unit and has connector pins housed in the bottom of the appliance proper which can be moved between positions whereat they project through openings in the bottom of the appliance proper for being engaged with the base connector terminals and whereat they are retracted within the appliance proper. A manual ON/OFF lever is provided which determines the position of the appliance proper terminal pins and has an associated interlock which ensures that the pins can only be extended when the appliance proper is seated on its base, and retract as it is lifted. Steam sensor and heating element overtemperature protection controls are also associated with the retractable terminal pins to disconnect the appliance proper from its powered base unit when the controls operate.</p> |
