PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a colorant-containing polymer emulsion, which has a sufficient coloring power because the polymer particles are of a minute particle size and contains a high concentration of a colorant, can develop a highly sophisticated image when used as a water-base ink, and the like, and is also excellent in storage stability, and a water-base ink. SOLUTION: There are provided a colorant-containing polymer emulsion prepared by emulsifying an oil phase containing an ethylenic unsaturated monomer and a colorant in water in the presence of a reactive surface active agent copolymerizable with the monomer to prepare a colorant-containing monomer emulsion having an average particle size of 20-500 nm and copolymerizing the monomer with a reactive emulsifying agent in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and a water-base ink prepared from the emulsion. |
