PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply-structured easily operable and controllable liquid tank type thermal shock device requiring no shift of a sample. SOLUTION: This device, by which a thermal shock is applied to a sample W with a high temperature side heat medium liquid L1 and a low temperature side heat medium liquid L2, is provided with a single liquid tank 1 for charging/ discharging the liquid L1, L2 and the sample W, a heater 21 and a cooler 31 respectively arranged on the outside of the liquid tank, a high temperature side circulating system 2 and a low temperature side circulating system 3 heating/cooling the liquid L1, L2 by means of the heater and the cooler so as to circulate them via the liquid tank 1, a high temperature side solenoid valve 22 and a low temperature side solenoid valve 32 switching the circulating systems 2, 3 to each other for circulation, circulation pumps 23, 33, and electric valves 24, 34, and for a refrigerator, a compressor 3a, a condenser 3b, an expansion mechanism 3c, a collecting tube 3d and the like are provided. In this way, the liquid L1, L2 can be applied to the sample W alternately at a predetermined interval so as to apply a thermal shock. The structure and control of the device can be simplified because a single liquid tank requires no shift or loading/ unloading of the sample.
