PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a focus detector comparatively inexpensive by using an imaging element which has sensitivity in both longitudinal and lateral luminance distributions and picks up an object image. SOLUTION: This detector is provided with a 1st arithmetic means (#403) detecting the image-formation state of an image-formation lens by obtaining relative positional change between a 1st image signal from the imaging device by luminous flux passing through an area obtained by dividing the exit pupil of the image-formation lens and a 2nd image signal from the imaging device by luminous flux passing through other area obtained by dividing the exit pupil of the image-formation lens. It is also provided with a 2nd arithmetic means (#408) detecting the image-formation state of the image-formation lens by obtaining the contrast of the object image concerning a different direction from the relative positional change directions of the 1st and the 2nd image signals based on the photoelectric conversion output of the imaging device. |
