PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a lactam expressed by formula (I) (wherein, R is same as described later; R1 is H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C hydroxyalkyl or a phenyl group). SOLUTION: (a) A lactone expressed by formula (II) (wherein, R is a 2-10C alkylene which is optionally substituted with a 1-6C alkyl or a phenyl group) is subjected to a gas phase reaction in the coexistence of (b) a primary, secondary or tertiary noncyclic amines optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents selected from a group consisting of a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C hydroxyalkyl and a phenyl group, and/or ammonia and (c) water using crystalline aluminum silicate zeolite as a catalyst. |
