PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a knob from returning from an ACC position to a lock position when shifting a shift lever to a position other than a parking position. SOLUTION: An ID code is transmitted from a key to a transmitting and receiving device provided in an automobile. The knob 13 can be turned from the lock position to the ACC position only when the ID code coincides with another ID code preregistered in the transmitting and receiving device. An interlocking mechanism 50 is provided in such an engine starting device 11. When the shift lever of the automobile is moved to a position other than a P position the interlocking mechanism 50 prevents the knob 13 from being turned from the ACC position to the lock position.
