PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dentifrice composition containing a specific kind of silica and preferably a specific binder and having >=pH 8.0 and therefore having significant prophylactic/therapeutic effect on periodontosis even in the case of low dose content of ascorbic acid compound(s). SOLUTION: This dentifrice composition is characterized by containing at least one compound selected from ascorbic acid and derivatives thereof and >=5 mass % of silica <=100 m2/g or >=500 m2/g in BET specific surface area, and being >=pH 8.0.
