PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilization method getting high sterilization effect with a simple treatment and having high safety and workability. SOLUTION: The sterilization method comprises the contact of microorganisms with an aqueous solution containing (A) hypochlorous acid and/or its salt, (B) a surfactant such as an amine oxide or a polyhydric alcohol derivative and (C) a pH regulator such as a saturated dibasic acid or its salt. More particularly, the aqueous solution has a pH of 3-8 (25 deg.C) and an available chlorine concentration of 5-5,000 ppm.
