O,o'-dihydroxy azo dyes as medicinal components with TPO-agonistic or -synergetic activity

The use of o,o'-dihydroxy-azo compounds (I) for the treatment and prevention of thrombocytopenia and anemia is new. Some trifluoromethyl-substituted analogs of (I), i.e. (I'), are new compounds. The use of azo compounds of formula X-N=N-Y (I), or their tautomers, salts or prodrugs, is claimed for the preparation of medicaments for the treatment and prevention of thrombocytopenia and anemia. X = naphthol residue of formula (a); Y = naphthol or phenol residue of formula (b) or (c); one of R1/R2 and one of R9/R10 = OH and the other one of each pair = bond to the azo group; R3 = H, halo, A, OA or N-(optionally substituted phenyl)-carboxamide group; A = 1-4C alkyl; R4, R17 = H, halo or SO3H; R5, R13, R15 = H, halo, A, OA or SO3H; R6, R7 = H, halo, A, OA or NHCOMe; R11 = H, halo, OMe or COOH; R12 = H, halo, OA or SO3H; R14 = H, halo, A, OA or NO2; R16 = H or halo; R18 = H, halo, OH or SO3H; R19 = H, halo, Me, OMe or SO3H; R20 = H, halo or OA. Independent claims are included for: (i) (I; R1 = OH; Y = (c) with R18 replaced by CF3), i.e. (I'), as new compounds; and (ii) the preparation of (I').
