PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method of producing a lithium manganese complex oxide useful as an effective positive electrode active material in a lithium second battery, expressed by a composition formula of LiMnO2, and having a layered rock salt structure, capable of simply producing the oxide at a low cost, and suitable for mass production. SOLUTION: This method of producing the lithium manganese complex oxide comprises a mixed raw material-preparing process where the mixed raw material is prepared by mixing a manganese compound of which the manganese valence is trivalent with an alkali metal compound which changes into a fused state at a temperature of >=1,000 deg.C and contains at least lithium so that a mol ratio of the alkali metal to the manganese in the mixed material is in a range of 2-6 (provided that, a mol ratio of the lithium to the manganese is not less than 1), and a complex oxide-synthesizing process where the lithium manganese complex oxide expressed by the composition formula of LiMnO2 and having the layered rock salt structure is synthesized by heating and maintaining the mixed raw material in an inert gas atmosphere at a temperature of 1,000-1,400 deg.C, and then cooling the material at a temperature-descending rate of >=3 deg.C/min when the temperature is in a range of >=700 deg.C. |
