PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-frequency induction tempering method for crank shaft with which the tempering treatment is collectively (in one process) applied to all hardening portions such as a journal part and pin parts in a crank shaft with a high-frequency induction heating coil and a high-frequency induction tempering apparatus. SOLUTION: This high-frequency induction tempering method is performed in order as the following, that is, a heating process (heating station 21), in which all the body of the crank shaft 1 containing non-hardening portions except the hardening portions is disposed in an area surrounded with the high-frequency induction heating coil 12, and the high-frequency induction heating of the crank shaft 1 to a prescribed tempering temperature is applied by energizing the high-frequency induction heating coil 12, a soaking process (soaking stations 22, 23), in which, after the heating process, the whole body of the crank shaft 1 is naturally cooled due to the heat conduction of the crank shaft 1 to obtain the soaking condition, and a cooling process (cooling station 24), in which, for performing a grinding work succeeding after the tempering process at room temperature, cooling liquid is jetted onto the crank shaft 1 to cool the crank shaft 1.
