The invention relates to a solid complex catalyst based on double metal salts comprising a complex double metal cyanide, an organic complexing agent and from 5 to 80 % polyether polyol, wherein some or all the hydroxyl group are tertiary, to a process for preparing the same, which comprises reacting the aqueous solutions of metal salt (in excess) and a metal cyanide in the presence of an organic complexing agent, combining the catalyst slurry with the polyether polyol that has tertiary hydroxyl groups, isolating the solid catalyst, washing said solid catalyst with an aqueous solution that contains an additional amount of organic complexing agent, recovering the catalyst, and it also relates to an epoxide polymerization process by reacting the epoxide in the presence of an initiator comprising hydroxyl group and of a solid complex double metal cyanide catalyst. The catalyst has a high activity and produces polyols having a low degree of unsaturation even at high epoxide polymerization temperatures. |
