METHOD FOR ESTIMATING JITTER

PURPOSE: A method for estimating a jitter is provided to set up an optical parameter of an optical pickup device within a short time by estimating as a jitter as an evaluation index of an optical pickup device. CONSTITUTION: One pit pattern of plural pit patterns is updated(S1). A relative location of a pit to a spot on an optical disc is updated(S2). Intensity of radiation for a reflected beam is calculated by using a predetermined mathematical formula(S3). The completion of the calculation process is checked(S4). The updating process of the relative location is repeated if the calculation process is not completed. An RF signal as an electric signal is calculated on the basis of the intensity of radiation by using a predetermined mathematical formula(S5). The completion of the calculation processes for all pit patterns are checked(S6). The distribution of jitter is calculated from the RF signal by using a predetermined mathematical formula(S7). A total jitter is calculated by using a predetermined mathematical formula(S8).
