FIELD EMISSION DEVICE HAVING VACUUM BRIDGE FOCUSING STRUCTURE

PURPOSE: A field emission device having vacuum bridge focusing structure is provided to improve operating power requirements and contaminant levels, while allowing small spot size required for high-resolution displays. CONSTITUTION: A field emission device(100) comprises a cathode plate(102) having a plurality of electron emitters(116); an anode plate(104) disposed to receive electrons emitted by the plurality of electron emitters; and a vacuum bridge focusing structure disposed on one of the cathode plate and the anode plate. The vacuum bridge focusing structure controls trajectories of the electrons emitted by the plurality of electron emitters. The vacuum bridge focusing structure defines a first opening overlying the plurality of electron emitters, and the first opening is centered over the plurality of electron emitters. The cathode plate further includes a plurality of second electron emitters, and the vacuum bridge focusing structure defines a second opening overlying the plurality of second electron emitters. The first opening is smaller than the second opening.
