Oxygen scavenging compositions composed of long chain branching copolymers and a transition metal compound are disclosed. The copolymers are comprised of units formed from ethylene and the vinyl unsaturated alicyclic compound of Formula I, wherein the C with the loop represents an unsubstituted or substituted C6-C12 non-aromatic ethylenic unsaturated alicyclic group. The composition may optionally also include a photoinitiator compound and/or a diluent polymer. The copolymer may optionally include units formed from a monomer selected from C3-C20 alpha-olefin, cycloolefin, non-conjugated dienes and mixtures thereof. Also disclosed is the use of the above compositions in packaging articles for oxygen sensitive articles, and methods for scavenging oxygen using packaging comprising of these compositions.
