MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD AND DEVICE FOR APPLYING LUBRICANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein the boundary face between a protective layer and a lubricant layer is made clean and environmental resistance is enhanced, to provide a method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium and a device for applying a lubricant. SOLUTION: The quantity of an impurity 6 in the boundary face between the protective layer 4 and the lubricant layer 5 which are successively provided on a magnetic layer 3 is specified to be <=1.0μg/m2. The magnetic recording medium 1 is disposed in the atmosphere of an inert gas at least during a period from the beginning of a stage for forming the protective layer 4 on the magnetic layer 3 to the completion of a stage for applying a lubricant on the protective layer 4 to form the lubricant layer 5. The atmosphere of the inert gas is constituted of gaseous nitrogen or gaseous Ar having <=2.0 ppb impurity 6 content. The atmosphere of the inert gas may also be constituted of air in which active gas components are removed by a filter up to a level of <=2.0 ppb.
