PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable effectively cooling a stator coil by making a necessary amount of cooling gas flow to an end portion of a stator coil. SOLUTION: In a rotary electric machine, the stator 3 and a rotor 4 which are arranged in a closed type outer shell 1, a gas cooler 9 arranged in a rear part of the stator, and a rotor fan 6 arranged in an end portion of the rotor, are installed. The stator coil, a rotor coil, etc., are cooled by circulating cooling gas in the machine. A guide 12 is installed which restrains the cooling gas supplied from the gas cooler from flowing to the tip to an end portion 3e of the stator coil and makes the cooling gas flow between the mutual end portions of the stator coil.
