PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chromakey processing unit with which a background color to intuitionally generate a key signal can be selected by visual observation and the range of the color can be finely adjusted. SOLUTION: The chromakey processing unit is provided with a cursor coordinate generating section 14 that generates cursor coordinates, a cursor generating section 15 that generates a cursor on the generated cursor coordinates, a latch section 16 that samples the color of a pixel of an entered key source corresponding to the generated cursor coordinates, a range calculation section 17 that calculates the spread range of a color discriminated to be the same as the sampled color, a comparison section 18 that compares the entered key source with the calculated range of color, a color pallet storage section 19 that stores the color of the pixel discriminated to be the same color as the result of the comparison as a color sample, and a synthesis display section 20 that synthesizes the color sample, the received key source and the cursor and provides an output of the synthesized signal onto a monitor, which displays the output.
