SOLUTION: A user at a station obtains the right to use a box 110 of a rental box 100 installed in the station, etc., and records key information for opening the box 110 on a key information recording medium 210. The article which has been bought is put in the box 110 whose use right is given to the user. When the user arrives at the station, the key information recording medium 210 is set to the rental box 100. A box opening/closing control means 123 extracts the key information of the corresponding box 110 from a box customer information storage means 122 and checks it against the key information read out of the key information recording medium 210 to judge whether or not the box can be opened. At this time, a box state that a box state monitor means 124 detects is referred to when necessary. A display means 125 displays information on the presence or absence of the article in the box and the checked result, which are necessary for the user.
