PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality character output keeping the whole strokes balanced by controlling line widths of a calligraphy font, concerning a character generation device and a recording medium. SOLUTION: This character generation device is provided with a 'reference' flag to outline points to be referred to as reference, a 'relative/reference' flag which is a relative flag to the outline points as the reference and a reference flag to the other line widths, and font information storing the information including 'relative' flag to only relative outline points, as outline information of each part at the time of controlling a line width of each part, and is provided with a character processing means for correcting a line width by referring to the font information and utilizing the flag.
