FRONT LIGHT TYPE ILLUMINATION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front light type illumination device, capable of converting the wavelength to white color using a high luminance LED emitting blue-colored light and lighting uniformly and moreover is small-sized. SOLUTION: The front light type illumination device is provided with an light guide plate 2 disposed, so as to be confronted with the display side of a liquid crystal display panel 21 where a micro prism 2b is formed on the observation surface of emission. The light guiding plate 2 is of a shape, jutting out from the outer of the liquid crystal display panel 21 toward the outside to form a micro prism 2a on the end surface jutted out. The blue color emitting LED 3 is installed integrally at the one end of the light guiding plate 2 which is positioned deviant from the liquid crystal display panel 21 and a wavelength converting layer 4 containing a luminous material is provided between the LED 3 and a region confronting with the display screen of the liquid crystal panel 21 for converting blue color emission into white-color emission.
