PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a processing time for verifying and correcting the recognized result and to improve a quality of correction as well. SOLUTION: Concerning a compound character recognizing device, which has plural character recognizing parts, for improving the performance of recognition with the majority of the respective recognized results, the results of plural character recognizing devices on a character pattern are stored in a recognized result storage part 50, the absence of the same combination as the recognized results of the character pattern once corrected by an operator is retrieved by a combination retrieving part 80 concerning all the characters of a document or characters equal to or lower than the certainty of the recognized result of the character pattern once corrected by the operator are compared by a certainty comparing part 100 concerning all the characters of the document to be handled, and the character pattern of coincident combination or character pattern of low certainty is displayed on a display part 90 as a character with possibility of erroneous read.
