An alloy steel suitable for use in bearings comprises: the balance being iron with any alloy impurities. The heat treatment described comprises austenizing at 2150-2250 DEG F. for at least 30 seconds, quenching in warm oil or molten salt at 300-375 DEG F. and then preferably tempering at 1000-1200 DEG F.
