The method involves importing and exporting operationally relevant data from and to outside the vehicle via a wireless interface. Operating parameters stored in the control unit are processed externally. The control unit is a menu-operated multifunction control element; menu controls can be altered externally and transmitted back wirelessly for storage and operation of the unit. An Independent claim is also included for an electronic control unit in a motor vehicle.
