Compounds of formula <FORM:0982144/C2/1> wherein X is a benzene ring which may be substituted and Y is sulphur, oxygen or NH are prepared by heating dicyandiamide with o-hydroxy-, o-thio- or o-amino-aniline in ethanolic hydrochloric acid, cooling and liberating the base with alkali. The benzene ring may be mono-, di- or tri-substituted with chloro, bromo, methyl, phenyl, methoxy or nitro groups. Compounds prepared are 2-guanidinobenzimidazole, 2 - guanidino - benzthiazole, 2-guanidino - benzoxazole and 5 - chloro - 2 -guanidino-benzimidazole. Other products are specified. |
