PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicinal composition extremely effective for treating septicemia and systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS) of a patient who has underlying diseases or is in a state specified in the following, because antithrombin III (AT III) does not exhibit its inherent therapeutic effect on the patient who has the above diseases or is in the above state. SOLUTION: This medicinal composition containing heparin cofactor II(HC II) is extremely effective for treating the septicemia and the SIRS of the patient who has various underlying diseases or complications, such as collagen diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE), diabetes, arteriosclerosis, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, hyperhomocysteinemia, hepatocirrhosis, injuries, shock, hemorrhage, burns, bruises, nephropathy, hepatopathy, pneumonopathy, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal diseases, cerebrovascular accidents, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, immunodeficiency, acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS), disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC) and skin diseases, is elderly, requires dialysis or is in an intraoperative/postoperative state of organ transplantation, or the like.
