PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save cost and labor and time for exchange of an adsorbent by prolonging the service life of the adsorbent the and to enhance the quality of the treated water by making an oil component absorbed to a low concentration, in an oily water separator for removing the oil component from drain discharged from an air compressor, etc. SOLUTION: A rough collecting tank 2 where low density adsorbents 2b, 2c are filled in in a tank 2a, is disposed at the upstream side, and a main treating tank 5 where a similar adsorbent 5b is filled in a tank 5a at a density about three times higher than that of the rough collecting tank 2 is connected to the tank 2 at the downstream side via a check valve 3. The oily water separating function is shared between the rough collecting tank 2 for adsorbing a large quantity of oil components speedily and the main treating tank 5 for lowering the oil component density to a low concentration satisfying an environmental quality standard.
