PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a molded solid acid catalyst having high activity in an acid catalyzed reaction such as isomerization, less liable to the deterioration of the activity and also having high compressive strength and to isomerize a paraffin using the catalyst. SOLUTION: Hydroxide of a group IVB transition metal and a zirconia precursor as a binder are mixed, molded and pre-fired at 100-600 deg.C and the resulting molding is used as a support and subjected to treatment comprising the carrying of a group VIII metal, treatment with a treating agent containing a sulfuric acid radical or its precursor and firing at 450-750 deg.C to produce the objective solid acid catalyst. |
