A buckle comprises a locking tongue 20 insertable into locking position into a lock housing, a U-shaped element 10, abutment surfaces on the locking tongue and lock housing comprising an angularly bent end portion 23 of the locking tongue and the boundary surface of a slot 11 in the lock housing in which slot the bent end is insertable to prevent withdrawal of the locking tongue from the locking position in the lock housing, a U-shaped member 17 in the lock housing movable into and out of a latching position and adapted in latching position coacting with the lock housing to prevent the abutment surfaces from being moved out of mutual engagement, a spring 18 for biasing the latch into latching position and an operating member, a lever 16 for moving the latch out of latching position against the action of spring bias. The member 17 and operating lever 16 pivot on a shaft 15 mounted in the sides of the element. The member 17 has shoulders 19 which engage the end of the lever to cause it to rotate counter clockwise against the action of the spring to free the tongue when the lever is rotated and to limit its rotation clockwise under the action of the spring into the position where the member 17 presses upon the tongue to prevent disengagement from the element 10. The element 10 has a strap-tensioning roller 13 slidable in the slot 11. The roller has end grooves engaging reduced parts of the element and retained in position by bosses 14 on the element. The tongue has a slot 21, for an end of the strap and a central aperture for suspending when not in use. |
