PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of detecting a face direction from an inputted face picture of an unspecified individual without previously acquiring the face image data of the object, its method and a program recording medium. SOLUTION: An average facial data preparing means 11 generates average front face picture data based on a plurality of pieces of sample front face picture data. A three-dimensional mapping means 14 generates average face model data by mapping the average front face picture data onto standard face shape model data preliminarily prepared by a three-dimensional face model preparing means 13. A two-dimensional database preparing means 16 generates average face picture data by angles at a time when the average face mode data are seen from a prescribed angle. On the other hand, a face direction discriminating means 22 detects a face direction in an input picture based on the degree of correlation between a picture inputted from a face picture inputting means 20 and the average face picture data by angles. |
