PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a display device by suspending one part of a the driving means of a liquid crystal plane in the case of displaying information only on a part of scanning lines. SOLUTION: For example, in an active matrix type liquid panel having pixels of 4 row and two columns, a pixel part consisting of TFTs 200 and 240, liquid crystal cells 201 and 241 and capacitors 202 and 242 is defined as a first display part 42 and other parts are defined as a second display part 43. AS common side driving means is divided into the first and the second and when information are displayed only one the first display part 42, the driving cycle of a first scanning electrode 101 is lengthened by controlling the scanning signal of a scanning side driving means 100 and, also, the output voltage of the second common side driving means is lowered. Moreover, when a binary picture is displayed only on the first display part 42, the D/A converter of a signal side driving means 110 is suspended and the level converter of eh means 110 is operated.
