PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable altimeter which judges precisely whether practical altitude vary and enables highly precise altitude measurement while portability is maintained. SOLUTION: This portable altimeter is equipped with a movement judging part 12 which judges whether the altimeter is in a static state or in a moving state by comparing an altitude variation with a prescribed static threshold value and a prescribed moving threshold value. When a static mode is set, a moving mode is set only in the case that the variation is higher than the moving threshold value. When the moving mode is set, the static mode is set only in the case that the variation is lower than the static threshold value.
