FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce and uniform an axial force applied to the impeller of a fuel pump. SOLUTION: The fuel pump module of a fuel pump assembly comprises an impeller rotatably supported in a hollow formed in a fuel pump module housing and a generally near annular pump channel formed near the generally circular edge of the hollow for impeller. The impeller further comprises axially spaced upper and lower side impeller vanes disposed around the outside annular edge thereof. The module housing comprises a discharge port communicating with the outlet flow passage of the pump channel. The outlet flow passage of the pump channel extends in a generally outer tangential direction through the side wall of the module housing. Thus, the discharge port is aligned with the tangential flow of fuel from the outlet flow passage of the pump channel so that the fuel can flow smoothly into the groove of the discharge port without being obstructed.
