METHANESULFONIC ACID MELAM, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND FLAME-RETARDANT POLYAMIDE RESIN COMPOSITION

A methanesulfonic acid melam which can be advantageously used as a flame retardant for synthetic resins, especially polyamide resins; and a flame-retardant polyamide resin composition containing the methanesulfonic acid melam. The methanesulfonic acid melam is obtained by burning a production of the reaction of melamine with methanesulfonic acid at 300 to 400 DEG C for 0.1 to 30 hours. It has a solubility in water (25 DEG C) of 0.01 to 0.10 g/100 ml, gives a 10 wt.% aqueous slurry thereof having a pH (25 DEG C) of 3.0 to 7.0, and contains melam in an amount of 0.90 to 1.30 mol per mol of the sulfur atoms.
