A liquid filling method capable of filling liquid into containers at a rate of as high as 3500 containers/nozzle.hour (2-pitch feed) without causing the problems such as foaming and turbulence of liquid surface inside the containers while raising and lowering the containers intermittently transferred in order to a filling station, and a high-speed liquid filling machine; the liquid filling method, comprising the steps of starting a filling during upward movement before the container reaches the upper dead point of vertical movement so as to fill a specified amount of liquid into the container at the upper dead point of the vertical movement, and filling liquid continuously while lowering the container; the filling must desirably be started before the transfer of the container is stopped, for example, the start of the filling must be advanced 30 to 70 DEG from the upper dead point of the vertical movement in one vertical movement cycle of 360 DEG , and a transfer must desirably be started before the end of lowering of the container, for example, the start of transfer of the container must be advanced 40 to 70 DEG from the end of lowering in one vertical movement cycle of 360 DEG .
