PURPOSE: A method for managing a VPI(Virtual Path Identifier)/VCI(Virtual Channel Identifier) in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switching system is provided to efficiently use limited memory resources by allowing an operator to limit the maximum/minimum range of VPI/VCI and to manage a VP(Virtual Path) list. CONSTITUTION: If a signaling for requesting to set a call is detected on any port(S101), a processor in a switching system identifies a VPI/VCI range of the corresponding port set in a management table(S102), and identifies a current VP for a VP connection and a current VPI/VCI for a VC connection(S103). With taking into accounting the VPI/VCI set in the corresponding port and the VPI/VCI currently used in the corresponding port, the VPI/VCI is allocated to establish a data channel for a signaling detected on the corresponding port(S104), and thereafter a VP list is managed(105). |
